Mitchell Family Funeral Home Obituary, Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa.

Anna Mae Otto, 91, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday night, February 4th, at the Grandview Heights in Marshalltown.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 9th, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown with Fr. Don Czapla as celebrant. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Calvary Cemetery at Melrose, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ann was born September 14th, 1917, in Chula, Missouri, the daughter of Harry and Bessie (Fleshman) Hapes. At age 7, her family moved to Colo, Iowa, where she grew up and graduated in 1930. She married Earl Francis Otto on June 15th, 1938. They lived on several farms in the Colo and Zearing (Iowa) area, where she was a homemaker and Earl worked as a day farmer. Due to a severe accident in 1948, they moved to Nevada, Iowa. Ann worked in various restaurants as a waitress and at the Nevada Bakery. In the mid-1970’s, Ann and Earl retired and moved to Green Acres near Lake Rathbun. She moved to Marshalltown in 1996, residing at Crestview Apartments. She became a resident at Grandview Heights in 2005 due to failing health and Alzheimer’s.

Ann was active in Girl Scouts during her younger days. In Marshalltown, she became a member of a local TOPPS organization. She was an avid bowler. Ann enjoyed gardening. Listening to and watching baseball and basketball on TV and spending time with her family. Most of all, she enjoyed playing cards and a challenging game of bridge.

Left to celebrate Ann’s life are her children: Mary Jayne (Paul) Bullock of Marshalltown; Kay Francis (Douglas) Baumgartner of Jackson, Alabama; and Earl Stephen Otto of Keokuk, Iowa; one brother Virgil Hapes (Marian) of Plano, Texas; brother-in-law Leonard Otto of Clemons, Iowa, sisters-in-law Beverly Otto of Marshalltown and Dorothy Hapes of Nevada, 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in the Marshalltown area.

In death Ann has rejoined her parents, husband Earl, brothers Bill and Henry, sisters Kathryn and Louise and grandson Steven Francis Otto.
