THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 27, 2009.

Carl Kenneth Marquette Sr., 71, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at The Rose Assisted Living Chapel in Ames.

Carl was born Jan. 14, 1938, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Robert Sr. and Hazel (Marlow) Marquette, and then moved with his family to Lawrence, Kan. Carl was a man of many talents. He used his gift of music as choir director at the Christian Baptist Church in Sioux City, and his artistic talents painting a stage curtain for the art department of a high school in Topeka Kan., and giving art lessons to his friends at The Rose of Ames, where he spent his last days. He worked on the façade of the Topeka State Capitol Building. Having a degree in hotel and restaurant management, he loved to cook, using his talent as a chef in several restaurants.

He is survived by his children, Kelly Ann Marquette, Karla Jo Peck and Tracy Lee, all of Lawrence, Kan., Carrie Lynn Marquette, of Florida, Carl K., of California, Carl Kenneth II, of Ames, and Kayla Ann Crook, of Altoona; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Marquette and his wife, Betty, of Granbury, Texas, and Joseph and his wife, Norma, of Cleveland Ohio; and one sister, Trudy Calvert and her husband, John, of Lake Quivira, Kan. Carl was a favorite uncle to several nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Hazel (Marlow) Marquette; and his beloved dog, “Rockie.”

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care of Ames is assisting the family.
