James "Jim" Gruetzmacher, age 76 of Marshalltown, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. A visitation to celebrate to Jim's life was held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home where the family was present. Private family services will be held at a later date. Jim was born on January 5, 1933, the son of Herold and Mae (Warnock) Gruetzmacher in Techemah, Nebraska. He was raised in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from Des Moines Tech. On September 21, 1965 he was joined in marriage to Martha Barker in Columbia, South Carolina. He was self employed and owned a tire business from 1953 until he retired in 2008. He was a board member of the National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association for five years. He helped form the Iowa Tire Dealers Association in 1975, and served as charter president. The couple moved to Marshalltown from Nevada in 1981, and Jim served as the President of the Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce from 1986 ? 1987. He was voted Small Business Man of the Year in 1983.

Jim loved to golf, fishing at Table Rock Lake, his bird dogs, his wife's home cooking, and he was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan.

Jim is survived by his wife, his two daughters: Cheryl Krongard of Baltimore, Maryland, and Allison Warden of West Des Moines, one son: Jeff Gruetzmacher of Rancho Cucomunga, California, and his grandchildren: Jill, Jayme, Wade, Rachael, and Taylor.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Gruetzmacher.
