Mary Josephine Horine, 92, of Nevada, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Nevada First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church in Nevada. Visitation with a luncheon will follow the service.

Mary was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Colo, the daughter of Joseph and Chloe (Myers) Van Sickle, and lived her entire life in Nevada. She graduated with honors from Nevada High School in 1934, worked at Donnelley's and later worked as legal secretary for Dayton Countryman for 20 years. She married Wilbur (Bill) Horine Oct. 14, 1939, at her parent's farm-home east of Nevada. She was a member of the Nevada First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church. Mary was a homemaker, a talented seamstress and an exceptional cook. She enjoyed gardening, keeping scrapbooks and photo albums, and sending cards and letters to friends and family. Most of all, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Mary is survived by her husband, Bill, of Ballard Creek Community in Huxley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Janet (Larry) Flanagan, of Runnells, and Ruth (Loren) Book, of Nevada; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fern Samson and Doris Samson, of Nevada; one brother, Morris (Geneva) Van Sickle, of Nevada; and sister-in-law, Patty Van Sickle, of Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joseph Van Sickle Jr.; and her sister, Inez Van Sickle.

Memorials may be given to the Mary Josephine Horine Memorial Fund.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is handling services.
