Almira B. Dodds, 79, died Saturday, March 7, at Northcrest Health Care Center, of a heart ailment. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at Bethesda Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charles Berdahl of Bethesda Lutheran Church and the Rev. John Anderson of Northcrest Retirement Community officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Almira Dodds was born Dec. 10, 1907, in Story County to Sam and Laura (Ostrem) Askelson. She was a lifetime resident of Story County, attended Gilbert High School, and Iowa State Teachers College, and Iowa State College. She taught in Gilbert Consolidated School, and Huxley Consolidated School and later became assistant to the clerk of municipal court in Ames. On Sept. 5, 1937, she married Edward E. Dodds in Story City. He preceded her in death in November 1985. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one sister, Olive Peterson of Story City; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; one foster brother, one sister, and one niece.
Visitation will be at the Adams Funeral Home Tuesday Evening. Memorials may be sent to Bethesda Lutheran Church or Northcrest Retirement Community.---from the Ames Tribune March 9, 1987
