Harriet Klohs Goslin died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, in Ames. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at United Church of Christ-Congregational in Ames.
Harriet was born April 14, 1925, in Henderson, Minn., the daughter of John Heinrich and Mary Alice (Hamilton) Klohs. She graduated from Le Mars High School and the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor's degree in English and biology and a master's degree in education. She married Donald Grant Goslin on May 30, 1948, in Le Mars. Donald was employed by the Department of Foreign Affairs, and they spent time at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, and Saigon, Vietnam, before coming to Ames.
She was Christian Education Director at United Church of Christ-Congregational of Ames for several years and also at First Baptist Church in Ames. She sat on several boards, including Girl Scout Council of Central Iowa, Pilgrim Heights Camp and Retreat Center, Northcrest Retirement Community, Youth and Shelter Services, and American Baptist Association National Committee; and was involved in the Hawkeye Recreatory Lab.
She is survived by three children, son, David (Linda) Goslin, of Cleveland, and daughters, Lianne Goslin and her partner Shelley E. Engman, of Iowa City, and Gail (Robert) Gonzalez, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Christina Amundson and Johnny Amundson, of San Antonio; nieces and nephews, Suzanne and Wayne Salter, of Huxley, Jill and Gordon Davis, of Boone, and John and Lynn Ball, of Pilot Mound; great-nieces and nephews, Jenifer, Erik and Kora Maki, Mathew Henderson, Lindsey, Rachel and Jason Davis, and Kim, Rita and Chris Ball.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Johnnie Ball; and one uncle, Jean Hempstead.
Memorials may be directed to Pilgrim Heights Camp and Retreat Center and Youth and Shelter Services.
Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
