THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, January 2, 2009.

James R. "Scoop" Hildebrand, 57, of Polk City and formerly of Ames, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, in Ames. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames. Burial will be at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Jim was born in 1951, in Ames, son of Dr. Howard H. and Maxine (Grant) Hildebrand. He graduated from Ames High School in 1969 and from Iowa State University where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Agent for 30 years. Jim was a loyal Iowa State alumnus, true FIJI Brother, and an enthusiastic fan of the ISU women's basketball team.

He is survived by his mother, Maxine Hildebrand, of Ames; one sister, Patti (Dave) Spatcher, of West Bend, Wis.; two brothers, Mike (Carol) Hildebrand, of Lakeview, Ark., and Steve (Betsy) Hildebrand, of St. Louis, Mo.; nieces and nephew, Christy Rutledge, Christopher Anderson, and Dana and Kate Hildebrand; and three great-nieces, Caitlyn, Chandler and Carley Rutledge.

He was preceded in death by his father; and nephew, Wesley Hildebrand.

Memorials may be directed to the Iowa State University Foundation/Women's Basketball.
