OBITUARY
Funeral for John A. Swanson was Sunday at Riis Funeral Home in Slater.
The Rev. LaVerne Ervin, Ames, officiated.
Mr. Swanson was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Swanson. He was born near Kelley, March 19, 1880, and died in his home in Kelley June 8. He was 76.
He was married to Emma Toll, Kelley, Dec 31, 1903. The couple had nine children.
Survivors are his wife; four daughters - Carol, Fern DeLong and Hazel Downs, Kelley and Glenda Adams, Waterloo; three sons - Everett and Albert, Kelley, and Raymond, Ames; 15 grandchildren; four brothers - Walter, Kelley; Victory, Minnesota; Earl, Newton; and Clifford, Ames; and three sisters- Ella Stensland, Kelley; Mable Crispin, Madrid, and Esther Benbow, Woodward.
Preceding him in death were daughters Carrie Haycock and Finous Ericksen and brothers Delmar and Wilbur.
Pallbearers were nephews Gerald, Freddie and Donald Swanson, Clyde Stensland, Marvin Benbow and Orville Crispin. Burial was in Hillsdale Cemetery, near Madrid.---from a local newspaper found in the Nevada Public Library Obituary collection

KELLEY - A longtime Kelley resident, John A. Swanson, 76, died about 2:15a.m. Friday at his home here.
Funeral will be at Riis Funeral Home in Slater Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. LaVerne Ervin of Ames First Christian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Madrid.
Mr. Swanson was born on a farm two miles west of Kelley and except for a few years in Minnesota spent his whole life in this area.
He is survived by his wife Emma; sons Everett and John A. Jr., Kelley, and Raymond, Ames; daughters Carol, Fern DeLong, and Hazel Downs, all of Kelley; and Glenda Adams, Waterloo; and 15 grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, including Clifford of Ames, and three sisters.---probably the Ames Tribune. Found in the Nevada Public Library Obituary collection
