Thursday, December 11, 2008.Ruth Norma Skarison, 93, of Mayville, ND, died Monday, December 1, 2008, at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville.
She was born on September 4, 1915, in Breckenridge, MN, the daughter of B. W. "Jeff" and Nettie (Nelson) Condit. Ruth attended school in Breckenridge, Mayville and Mayville State Teacher's College.
On May 1, 1934, she married Ardis "Ardie" Skarison at the Mayville Congregational Church. The couple resided in Mayville their entire married life. Ruth worked at the Mayville Post Office for over twenty years.
Ruth was a lifelong member of the Mayville Congregational United Church of Christ. She was active in Women's Fellowship, PEO, Eastern Star and was also known for contributing articles in the Traill County Tribune newspaper, which her father owned and operated. Ruth volunteered at the Cardiac Rehab and was the oldest surviving Relay for Life member in Mayville. She enjoyed golfing, reading, crossword puzzles, knitting, baking flat bread, classical and religious music, and her "Twins" baseball.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Judy Chance of Nevada, and Shirley (Charles) Nelson of Hackensack, MN; 7 grandchildren, Jill Handley, Mark (Lynne) Chance, Mike Chance, Melissa Chance, Karl (Alyson) Nelson, Kirsten Demars and Eric (Sara) Nelson; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen (Gerry) Spies of St. Petersburg, FL, and Beverly (Edwin) Clausen of Clark, SD; one brother, Theodore "John" (MaryLee) Condit of Mount Morris, IL. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ardis on March 17, 1980; twin daughters; two sisters, Helen Moritz and JoAnne Harrington.
Memorials preferred to the Mayville Congregational United Church of Christ, 111 N. Center Avenue, Mayville, ND 58257 or Luther Memorial Home, 750 E. Main Street, Mayville, ND 58257.Services were held Thursday, December 4, 2008, at the Mayville Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial was in the Mayville Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by Baker Funeral Home of Mayville.
