Alice Hitchings of Zearing, Iowa passed away at Israel Hospice House, Ames, Iowa on Saturday, December 6, 2008.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 12 at 10:30 am at Bethel United Methodist Church, Zearing with burial at Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, December 11 from 6-8 pm, with the family present, at Fredregill Funeral Home, Zearing.

Alice was born in Marshalltown, Iowa to Charles and Gertrude (Santee) Chinn on February 28, 1908. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1926. Alice grew up in the Methodist Church.
Alice married Marion R. (Monk) Hitchings on May 20, 1934 in Nevada, Iowa. In 1942, they moved from Fernald, Iowa to Zearing. From 1957- 1973, Alice was the secretary to the superintendent and school board at the Zearing and later the NESCO school district. She was an honorary member of the Sorosis Club of Zearing. She had been a resident of Colonial Manor in Zearing since February 2001.

Alice is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Jeanette (Keith) Gibson of Burlington, Iowa, and 3 sons; James of Emory, Texas, Charles (Charlotte) of La Porte City, Iowa, and Marvin (Nora) of Ames, Iowa. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, one sister-in-law, Fern Chinn of Marshalltown, Iowa, and one brother-in-law, Ralph (Bud) Hitchings of Zearing, Iowa.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Kenneth (November 5, 2008), 2 brothers; Clifford and Gilbert, and 2 sisters; Mildred and Josephine.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Fredregill Funeral Home of Zearing is in charge of arrangements.
