DES MOINES - Eleanor McConnell, 101, of Des Moines, formerly of Nevada, died Friday, November 7, 2008 at Union Park Health Services in Des Moines.

Eleanor was born October 16, 1907, the daughter of Wilbur and Ruby (Werner) Sarsfield and came with her parents to Story County in 1912. She attended Brohard, Consolidated Colo, Hickory Grove, and Nevada High School. She taught school near Cambridge for one year and taught for two years at Hickory Grove School. Eleanor then worked at Donnelley's for 21 years. Eleanor was united in marriage to Richard McConnell on November 6, 1930. Richard preceded Eleanor in death September 15, 1966. She was a member of the Nevada First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church. Eleanor enjoyed quilting and nature. She was devout church member and loved her family.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter: Carol Archer of Des Moines, IA; her son and daughter-in-law: Ray and Janis McConnell of Kent, Washington; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son: Larry McConnell; a granddaughter: Laurie Archer; and two brothers and sisters-in-law: Harland and Mary Sarsfield, and Robert and Mildred Sarsfield.

Memorial services were held Tuesday at the Nevada First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Inurnment was in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Department of the Nevada First Christian Church.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is handling services.
