THE NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, November 6, 2008.

C. David Sowers, 77, passed away on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family. His funeral service was held Wednesday, November 5th, at the Colo United Methodist Church, Colo, Iowa, with internment at the Evergreen Memorial Garden, Nevada, Iowa, which immediately followed the service.

Dave, as his friends and family have known him his entire life, was born in his family home at Story City, Iowa, on February 26th, 1931. It was on that farm that Dave started his life-long passion for farming. He graduated from Randall High School in 1949, and attended classes at the Iowa State College of Agriculture. He met his wife and loving partner of 56 years, Dorothy Ann Dadisman, at a Randall basketball game, and they were married on January 13th, 1952, at the Fernald Church of the Brethren, Fernald, Iowa. The day before their wedding, Dave received his draft notice for the U.S. Army, and left for basic training within days of their short honeymoon. Dave spent two years in the Army, stationed during that time as a member of the 7th Armored Division, Occupation Forces, Trieste, Italy. He returned to the States and was discharged in January, 1954.

Dave and Dorothy began their dream as a farm family on a small acreage outside of Story City, where their first son, Jon, was born. They moved to a new farm south of Zearing in 1956, and finally to the long-time family farm outside of Colo in late 1956. That farm was the joy of Dave and Dorothy's life together, where son Dan "Butch" and daughter Marianne were born. They farmed there until 1982. Dave began working for the Iowa DOT in 1970 and retired in 1996 after 26 years of state service.

Dave was a member the American Legion, Colo, the Colo United Methodist Church, and longtime board member of the Colo Telephone Company. Dave was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, Clarence and Eva Sowers, of Story City, a son-in-law Ken Johnson, and a grandson, Dwight Johnson. Dave is survived by his wife, Dorothy, sons Jon and Butch, daughter Marianne, brothers Richard and Jerry, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Story County Medical Center and the Colo United Methodist Church.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
