Sylvester P. Peakin, 95, formerly of Colo, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada, Iowa. Services were held Saturday, November 1st at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colo. Visitation was at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada on Friday, October 31st.
Sylvester was born February 20, 1913 at Colo, Iowa, the son of Patrick John and Amelia (Biensen) Peakin. He graduated from Colo High School in 1930. He was united in marriage to Emily Oliver on March 29, 1943 at Ames, Iowa. She preceded him in death July of 1987.

Sylvester was a farmer and a crop adjuster salesman. He was a member of the Colo St. Mary's Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was born, raised and farmed in the Colo area all his life.

Survivors include one son: Patrick (Linda) Peakin of Colo, Iowa; two daughters: Roberta (Jerry) Cable-Matheason of Story City, Iowa; Janice (Mark) Krausman of Nevada, Iowa; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant son, a granddaughter: Patsy Cable; and a brother: Wilbert Peakin.

Memorials may be given to the Colo Fire and Rescue Department.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
