Jacob Ersland, Slater Pioneer, Dies Monday

SLATER — Jacob Ersland, 86, pioneer Slater resident, died at his home here Monday night about 10:30 following a heart attack. Mr. Ersland fell and broke his ankle about a month ago and had been bedfast since.

Born in Shold, Norway in 1849, Mr. Ersland came to the United States when he was 1 years old and
settled on a farm near Slater. He moved into town about 25 years ago.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Bethlehem church here at 2 p. m. Thursday and interment will be in the Bethlehem cemetery. The Rev. E. R. Rorem will be in charge.

Surviving are his wife and eight children. Two other children died in infancy. The living children are Ben of Duluth, Minn., Knute of Estherville, Nels of Huxley, Jerome of Slater, Mrs. Ruth Griffin of Chicago, Mrs. Paulson of Forest City, Olive Ersland of Des Moines and Mrs. Graydon Stevens of Pilot Mound.
