THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, October 25, 2008.

Lois Ann Searl, 79, of Story City, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Ames. Burial will follow the service at Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City.

Lois Searl was born Nov. 3, 1928, in Stanberry, Mo., to Harold Elting and Laura Ethel (McGinley) Gooden. She married John "Jack" Searl Oct. 26, 1947, in Pattensburg, Mo. They moved from Missouri to Story City in March 1962. She worked as a retail sales manager. She was a charter member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and volunteered there with the food pantry and Special Olympics. Lois had a special love for animals and for her family.

She is survived by three children, Larry Searl, of Story City, John Searl, of Story City, and Sandy Searl, of Ames; a sister, Barbara Waters, of Macon, Mo.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two half-sisters.

Memorials may be designated to Bethany Life Communities or the Ames Animal Shelter.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is assisting the family with the arrangements.
