THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, October 24, 2008.

Thomas Richard Mickle, 56, of Gainesville, Ga., passed away in hospice care with family present Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008. Masonic services were held Oct. 23, and a service of celebration was today in Gainesville.

Tom was born Sept. 3, 1952, in Boone. He graduated from Iowa State University and Drake. Tom worked with poultry vaccine research development and marketing at Merial Select Laboratory for the last 31 years. He had the opportunity to travel throughout the world during his career.

He had been a volunteer with United Way and served as a board chair. He was a member of the Gainesville Masonic Lodge No. 219. He was active in the First United Methodist Church. Tom also enjoyed events his daughters were involved in: theatre and sprint kayaking.

Tom is survived by his wife of 34 years, Margot Heston Mickle, and their daughters Libby and Emily Mickle, of Gainesville, Ga.; parents, Robert and Evelyn Mickle, and sister, Peg Mickle Warren and her husband, Terry, and their sons, Billy and Aaron, all of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carl and Julia Olander, and his paternal grandparents, Leonard and Golden Mickle.
