Mabel Weeks, 101, of Madrid, formerly of Huxley, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Madrid Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, also at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mabel Alida Weeks, 101, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at the Madrid Home in Madrid. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley.

Mabel was born July 12, 1907, on a farm near Kelley, to Johan and Julia (Rullestad) Freeland. On May 17, 1930, Mabel married Obert Weeks and lived in Des Moines. In 1987, Mabel moved to Prairie Village in Slater and lived there for 12 years. In 1999, she moved to Ballard Creek Assisted Living Community in Huxley, where she resided for nine years prior to moving to the Madrid Home last month.

She is survived by her son, Glenn (Janet) Weeks, of Hugo, Minn.; daughter, Marlene (Ray) Renda, of Montclair, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Brad (Wendy) Weeks, Beth Ann (Dave) Kohner, Jane (Dave) Streitz, Teresa Summers, Renee (Ken) Kelch, Kathryn (Joe) Silva, Christine (Matt) Tedder, and Ramon Renda; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Reinertson, of Huxley, and Thelma Danilson, of Boone; and many treasured nieces and nephews.

Mabel was preceded in death by infant daughter, Lois, in 1933; husband, Obert, in 1966; four sisters; and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley or St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater is assisting the family with arrangements.
