Betty Jean Corbin, 79, of Ames, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, after a battle with cancer. A celebration of Betty's life will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Betty Jean Corbin was born April 12, 1929, in East Galesburg, Ill. She moved to Ames upon her mother's death and was adopted by her aunt, Hazel (Pike) and Phil Stover. She married Russell Corbin in 1948. She retired from Hach Chemical in 1996, after 30 years.

She is survived by her children, Ernest (Jennifer) Corbin, Norma (Jim) Schmalzried and Kathy "K.P." Perkovich; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Hannah and Emma Corbin, Patrick Schmalzried, and Sean Perkovich; four great-grandchildren, Cory and Jacob Howell and Preston and Taylor Schmalzried; and her special children, her chihuahuas.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her adoptive parents; three brothers; and one sister.
