Henry Davis died March 4th, 1896, at his home near Gilbert Station, Iowa. He was born near Albany, N. Y., Jan 15th, 1819, came to Michigan when but nineteen years of age, and was there married to Catherine Riker; four children were born to them, three of whom are now living, one daughter in Michigan, another in California, and a son in Missouri. His wife died August 1st, 1848. In 1855 he was married to Elizabeth Rood, to them were born two children, a daughter who died in 1890. The son survives him. Mrs. Davis departed this life Nov. 17, 1896, Mr. Davis has been a resident of Story County since 1872, and a member of the M. E. for thirty-five years, has lived a faithful and exemplary Christian life, and when the messenger of death came although so sudden, and unexpected, it found him ready like a shock of corn, fully ripe and fit for the Master's use. It can be truly said, a father in Israel has fallen, his seat in church is vacant, who will fill it, and who will his mantle fall upon? Many will remember his good advice and kind admonitions. While his body lies entombed in the church cemetery, may his influence go on doing good. The funeral services were held at Pleasant Grove church on Friday at three o'clock p.m., Rev. Coe officiating. The text was Romans, 8th chapter and 18th verse. He was laid to rest by his late deceased companion in the churchyard.

How peacefully he sank to rest;
The throbbing heart lies still,
And varied schemes of life no more,
Distract the laboring will.
