AMES - Major Paul E. Babbitt (Gene), 74, of Ames, Iowa passed away September 3, 2004 at the VA Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa.

Military funeral services were held Tuesday at the Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ames. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Major Paul Babbitt Memorial Fund, US Bank, 405 Main Street, Ames, Iowa 50010.

Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by 2 daughters: Sgt. Genell Reilly and Sarah Babbitt of Ames, Iowa; 7 grandchildren and 2 sisters; Pauline Smith of Muncie, Indiana and Ruth Romack of Vacaville, California; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, (Mr. & Mrs. Oscar Babbitt of Nevada, Iowa); an infant son, Paul Jr.; 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
