Collins Gazette, Collins, Story County, Iowa, December 5, 1918.

William Loren Ayers, oldest son of John and Ellen Ayers, was born near Nevada October 23rd, 1891, and died at the home of his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Oxley, November 29th, 1918, aged 27 years, one month and six days. The immediate cause of his death was pneumonia resulting from an attack of influenza, being ill but a few days. About two weeks before his death he was taken down with influenza and soon felt all right. and well, so he got out and attended to his farm duties and last week Monday took to his bed and pneumonia developed. He was married to Florence Ann Oxley at Marshalltown, April 18th, 1914. He was a member of the Mystic Workers lodge of Collins where he was for many years well and favorably known. All that kind and loving hands could do was done to beat back the march of the disease in his system, but its hold was too strong and Loren went away.

He was a kind husband and a good neighbor. The funeral services were held Sunday in the Iowa Center cemetery, Rev. J. C. McCain in charge.

C A. Sanders, H E Southern, M. H Biddick, Will Carver, Clarence Campbell and Harley Gerhart acted as pall bearers.

Loren leaves to mourn his departure the faithful young wife, his parents, three sisters and one brother, with many friends. All of his relatives were present at the funeral except his sister Mary, who was unable to attend. His wife, Florence, who is just recovering from influenza, war not able to go to the cemetery.
