Stark Atwood Dies Yesterday; Services Will be Held Friday.
Stark Atwood, 82, of Collins died yesterday at the Story County Hospital. He had been a patient for six weeks.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 19, at 2 p.m. in the Collins Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Evergreen cemetery in Collins. Rev. Thomas Woodin will officiate at the services.
The body will lie in state at the Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell until time of services.
Atwood is survived by his wife, Jesse; two sons, Lowell and Floyd both of Collins; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
One sister, Mrs. Catherine Chandler and one brother, Morris, both of Long Beach, California also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Thursday, May 19 for Stark Atwood who died in the Story County Hospital Tuesday, May 17, 1960.
Rev. Thomas Woodin was the officiating clergyman. Mrs. Stanley Mitchell and Mrs. Robert Schmiddt sang "Ivory Palaces" and "In the Garden" accompanied by Mrs. Thayer Derby at the organ.
Mrs. Fred Kimberly and Miss Swalwell cared for the flowers. Casket bearers were Horace Ozmun, Jeff Morrison, Richard Baldwin, Fred Kimberley, Lowell Renefeldt and Joh Crabb.
Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery in charge of the Coooper Funeral Home of Maxwell.
Obituary
Stark Atwood, son of Hosea and Martha Atwood was born in Sycamore, Illinois, and came with his parents to Iowa as a child, where he lived the remainder of his life in the Collins vicinity. At the time of his death he was 82 years and four months of age.
On October 15, 1900 he was united in marriage to Jessie Southern who survives with two sons Floyd and Lowell both of Collins.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, William and Eugene Atwood of Collins; Mrs. Carol Head of Madison, N. J. and Linda Atwood of Collins and nine great grand children.
One sister, Mrs. Catharine Chandler and one brother, Maurice Atwood both of Long Beach Calif. also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Henry and John.
