Mr. Eugene Robert Atwood, 72, Collins, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2003 at his residence from cardiopulmonary arrest.

Services were held Wednesday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Collins United Methodist Church in Collins. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Collins. He was a life-long resident of the Collins and Maxwell areas where he farmed.

Mr. Atwood was born Nov. 14, 1930 in Collins the son of Floyd and Ila (Crabb) Atwood. He married Dorothy Buck on March I1, 1951 at the Collins United Methodist Church.

Mr. Atwood graduated with a two-year degree in farm management operations course at Iowa State University in Ames. He served as Jasper County Soil Commissioner for 15 years.

He was a member of the Iowa Army National Guard. He was also a member of the Collins United Methodist Church and past president of the Collins School Board and a past board member of the Collins Lions Club. He was a 50-year member of the Fervent Masonic Lodge #513 A.M. and F.M of Collins. He was also a 50-year member of the Isabelle Chapter of the Eastern Star #271 in Colo.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy Atwood; two sons, Mark (Merily) Atwood of Collins, and Jim (Jody) Atwood of Ames; a daughter Mrs. Diana (Bob) Oswalt of Colo; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, a brother, William Atwood of Collins, two sisters Mrs. Carol (Glen) Head of Madison, NJ, and Mrs. Linda Lein of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Herb.

Fredregill Funeral Home of Collins was in charge of arrangements.
