In the death of Albert G. Armstrong, which occurred at the Iowa Sanitarium at Nevada last Sunday morning, Nov. 2, at 3:15 o'clock, Collins has lost another pioneer and community builder—one who for years took a very active part in the advancement of the interests of this section.

Death came at the advanced age of 82 years. after he had suffered an extended illness of many months, the greater part of which time was spent at his home in Collins, it being only about a month ago that he was taken to the sanitarium.

Deceased was a member of the local Masonic and I. O. O. F. lodges.

The community mourns the loss of a member who had served faithfully and well in many positions and offices of public trust, and the sympathy of all Is extended to the members of the family.

Obituary

Albert G„ son of Jared M. and Eliza Armstrong, was born January 16, 1848, in Upshur county, West Virginia. At the age of 17, he came west, and enlisted in the army, serving several years. Afterward he engaged in (arming in Jasper and Story counties until 1887, when he moved to Collins.

On April 7, 1872, he married Elsie O. Kirkendall, who preceded him in death November 15, 1928.

To them were born six children, four of whom are living: Mrs. Maude Ryan of Collins, Mrs. Warren Ayres of Des Moines, Edward D. of Rein-beck, and Albert G. of Marshalltown. There are also four grandchildren: Mrs. Wm. Tyler and Max Ryan of Mason City, Edward and Jack Ayres of Des Moines; and two great grandchildren, John and Marilou Tyler of Mason City.

Mr. Armstrong is also survived by eight brothers and sisters, all except one being over 70 years of age.

The funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the U. B. church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Zerry Hougham-assisted by members of the Masonic order of which Mr. Armstrong had long been a faithful member. Brother Masons acting as pall bearers were B. L. Mead, L. D. Shearer, Ellsworth Campbell, Clark Chambers, Frank Holland and Warren Kitchel.

Several lovely hymns were sung by Mrs. Florence Haas, Mrs. R. G. Patton, Mr. E. B. Weese and Mr. Chas. Cooper, Mrs. Florence Mead presiding as pianist. The floral gifts were very lovely, and were in charge of Mrs. B. L. Mead and Mrs. Oscar Serbein. The burial ceremony at Evergreen cemetery was conducted by the Masonic order, and was beautiful and Impressive.
