Collins Gazette, Collins, Story County, Iowa, July 3, 1913.

This morning at 10 o'clock occurred the funeral of Earnest Allen at the M. E. church. Mr. Allen died Saturday, after a severe illness. Rev. Violet who officiated read the following obituary:

Earnest Allen was born in Cass Co., Iowa, Aug. 22, 1877 and died June 28, 1913, aged 35 years, 10 months and 6 days. He had lived with his parents almost all of his life in the vicinity of Collins. There remains of the bereaved family, teh father, Geo. W. Allen, two brothers, Sidney and Edgar and one sister, Mrs. Ida Mason, all of the Collins community. The mother departed this life Sept. 29, 1908.

The deceased was a man of clean habits, industrious and highly respected by all who knew him. His many friends join the family in their sorrow and sympathize with them in their grief.

The pall bearers, most of whom were from the Yoemen lodge of which he was a member, were A. O. Williams, Dr. Graham, Clarence Campbell, J. J. Hattery, W. W. Westcott and Squire Stevens. A large choir, with Miss Erma Anderson as pianist, sang the hymns of hope and comfort.

After the funeral the procession proceeded to the graveyard near Elwell where he was buried near his mother's grave.
