THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, July 13, 2008.
Dorothy Maxine Witcraft, 94, of Fort Dodge and currently of Story City, passed away on Saturday, July 12, in her sleep at Timberland Village Assisted Living in Story City.
A graveside service and burial is at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, in Cedar Cemetery in Fonda.
Dorothy was born May 26, 1914, on a farm near Palmer, the second of five daughters to Rufus Pleasant and Ruby Mary (Funk) Bowers. She graduated from Fonda High School in 1931 and completed additional classes to teach country school. She married James Edwin Witcraft on June 1, 1936, and they resided in Fort Dodge, where Jim had a beauty shop in their home. Dorothy worked for the Boston Store and at the Warden Hotel. She retired at the age of 70 from Friendship Haven. She was a member of Epworth Methodist Church in Fort Dodge.
She is survived by her three children: Roma and husband Jim Jarvis, of Ames; Linda and husband Gary Crouse, of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; and Jim Witcraft, of Denver, Iowa; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim; and four sisters, Verda, Violet, Ardith and Juanita.
Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
