THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

June 6, 1916-June 30, 2008

Lois Rose Brown, 92, of Ames, died Monday, June 30, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 3, in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone.

Lois Rose Brown was born June 6, 1916, in Gaza, to John William and Rosa Maude (McMurrin) Casey. She married Ezra Raymond Brown March 19, 1935, in Canton, S.D. She was an accomplished seamstress, a talented artist and had a special talent of baking beautiful cookies and candies and growing flowers. She was an active member of the Democratic Ladies in Boone. After she was widowed at the young age of 41, she devoted the rest of her life to raising her children. She was a member of RSVP Quilting in Boone and the Sacred Heart Altar Society.

She is survived by three daughters, Janice (Wayne) Platt, Rita (Carroll) Vis and Michele Nelson; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Raymond, in 1980, and Gregory, in 2007; and four brothers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, at the Adams Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
