John R. Love, 64, of Ankeny and formerly of Ames, died Thursday, June 26, at home. Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 1, at Ankeny Funeral Home, with burial at 2 p.m. in Union Chapel Cemetery near Albia.
John was born Oct. 10, 1943, in Davenport, to Shirley and Richard Love. He was a 1962 graduate of Albia Community High School. From 1962 to 1966, he served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1968, he graduated from Centerville Community College.
He had been retired for the past two years, but worked for WOI-TV for 28 years then worked for AVI Systems of Urbandale for 10 years.
He loved Corvettes and was a member of the Cyclone Corvette Club Inc., where many friendships were formed. He enjoyed golfing and aviation and was known for his quick wit and sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Diane; one son, Michael (Melissa) Love, of Noblesville, Ind., and their children, Mark, Christian and Marissa Lovell; one daughter, Susan Love and her husband, Brian Cleveland, of Altoona; three brothers, Jay (Ginny), of Knoxville, Richard (Peggy), of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Steve, of Columbus, Ohio; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Shirley Love.
