Grace O. Twedt, 87, died of a brief illness at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines on Monday, February 7, 2005. Burial services were held at the Roland Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2005, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny where she was a member.
Born in Milford Township on December 11, 1917, Grace spent most of her life in Story County, Iowa, until she moved to an apartment at the Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny in 1998 to be closer to her children.
After graduating from high school in 1935, Grace attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught in country schools for two years. She married Floyd Twedt in 1941, and they farmed in Milford Township until retiring to Nevada in 1979. She was active in church and community activities and was a 4-H leader for many years.
Grace is survivied by two sons, Arlen (Asta) and John (Jill June), both of Ankeny, a daughter, Nancy Twedt, of Des Moines, five granddaughters, Colleen, Mindy, Sascha, Maia, and Karla, and four great grandchildren, and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a son, Dennis, who died in 1981, and her husband, Floyd, who died in 1994.
