Dr. Samuel Keith Adams, 70, of Ames, died Thursday, June 5. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Westside Church of Christ with Minister Tony Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Iowa State University Cemetery.
Samuel Keith Adams was born March 1, 1938, to Samuel Cleveland Adams and Belle Jackson (Schoble) Adams in Salisbury, Md. He married Eileen Peggy Telinde on Aug. 27, 1966. He attended Germantown Academy in Philadelphia, and he earned a bachelor's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before graduating from Arizona State University with a master's degree and a doctorate degree in industrial engineering. He was a professor at Oklahoma State University for eight years prior to moving to Ames and was a professor of industrial engineering in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at ISU for 32 years before he retired in 2006.
He was a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, Isaac Walton League and the Westside Church of Christ. He was an accomplished pianist, an avid model railroad hobbyist and collector and enjoyed model ships and war history.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen; one son, Dr. Douglas Scott Adams and his wife, Dr. Lynn S. Adams, of Pasadena, Calif.; one daughter, Carey Margaret Adams Knouff and her husband, Dr. Christopher W. Knouff, of New Hill, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one uncle, William Jackson Schoble.
A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Adams Funeral Home.
