1923-2008

Patricia L. Fellinger died Friday, June 6, at the age of 85, in Las Vegas, where she lived with her daughter Jo, the last stop on her world travels. Pat was born in Burlington in 1923 and had the distinction of being the first woman stockbroker in the state of Iowa. During the early years of her four children's lives, she taught piano and organ and then helped run the family restaurants called Twin Oaks and Little Acorn. Later, she became a real estate broker in Wisconsin.

In 1943, she married Marcus R. Leighty, who died in 1990 in Tulare, Calif., where they lived for many years. She subsequently married her childhood sweetheart, Robert C. Fellinger, in Ames in 1991, where Pat lived happily (despite the snow) after marrying Bob. They were together only a short time when Bob died in 1994.

She always wanted to travel. After raising her four children and burying her two husbands, she went to Beijing and Hong Kong, China, Thailand, India, Kenya, Australia, Italy, England, Ireland, Malta, Belgium, Mexico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Costa Rica and France. Hawaii was a very special place she traveled to many times. She enjoyed seeing and experiencing different cultures, especially Kenya and France for their wonderful food and wines. She also enjoyed knitting, golf, gardening, water fountains and floating in pools reading book after book.

She is survived by four children, Scott Leighty, Gail Lerner-Connaghan, Jo Tampas and Kate Parsons; and six grandchildren, Jack Lerner, Justin Leighty, Sara Lerner, Ryan Leighty, Kelly Tampas, Jana Leighty, Montana and Jessica Parsons.

Her family loved her. She will be missed greatly but will be forever in our hearts. If you want to make a contribution in her name, some of her favorite charities were the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the World Wildlife Foundation.
