Magnus Simonsen 1907 - 2003

Magnus Simonsen, 96 of Nevada died on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Rolling Green Village where he had been a resident since April of 2000. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland with Pastor Davil Burling officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Magnus was born on May 3, 1907 in Vorgum, Denmark to Anders Kristian and Johanne Marie (Christensen) Simonsen. He came to the United States in 1924 and became a naturalized citizen in 1930. In 1931, he attended Grandview College in Des Moines. Magnus married Margaret Jensen on December 24, 1932 in Ames. He was a member of the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, Co-op Board, Farm Bureau, Milford Township school board, and volunteered at the Milford Township election poll district. He won the corn picking contest and was recognized by the Co-op for 60 years of farming. He enjoyed working, farming, traveling, and playing chess, cards, and pool.
Magnus is survived by his wife, Margaret Simonsen of Nevada; a daughter, Janet Robey of Ames; two grandchildren, Douglas Robey (Kori) of Ames and Lynette Hardy (Rod) of Nevada; a great granddaughter Misty Marie Hardy of Nevada and three great grandsons, Austin Hardy of Nevada, Dalton Robey of Boone and Ethan Robey of Ames.
Magnus is preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers, seven sisters, and a grandson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25 after 3 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.
A memorial fund has been established.
