Margaret Simonsen, 91, of Nevada, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Rolling Green Village where she had been a resident since January 2000. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in rural Ames.
Margaret, one of 12 children, was born April 24, 1913, in rural Ames to Christian F. and Pauline (Stolburg) Jensen. She attended North Grant School through 10th grade and was a 1932 Ames High School graduate. On Dec. 24, 1932, Margaret married Magnus Simonsen in Ames. She was a homemaker and also worked with her husband on the farm. From 1932 to 1947, they resided on a farm located on Highway 69 north of Ames. In 1947, they moved to a farm south of Roland. Margaret was a member of the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, several church circles and the Happy Hour Club of Milford Township. Margaret was an excellent cook, avid reader, and enjoyed gardening and embroidering.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Janet Robey of Ames; a sister, Marie Arnold of Ames; two grandchildren, Douglas Robey (Kori) of Ames and Lynette Hardy (Rod) of Nevada; a great granddaughter, Misty Hardy of Nevada; three great-grandsons, Austin Hardy of Nevada, Dalton Robey of Boone, and Ethan Robey of Ames.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Magnus on June 21, 2003; a grandson; six brothers and four sisters.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29 at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.
A memorial fund has been established.
