Isophene A. Safly, 76, rural Boone, died early Monday, Jan. 10 at Mary Greeley Hospital.
Funeral services are Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Henry T. Hackman and Robbert Simmons will officiate, with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Luther.
Mrs. Safly was born July 28, 1900 in Boone County to Samuel Arthur and Alice (Hurst) Walker. She married John O. Safly Dec. 25, 1919 in Boone County. He preceded her in death July 29, 1972.
She was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Safly was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Ames Altrusa and was active in the Senior Citizens. She served as W.C.T.U. state officer, Boone County Republican Women's chairman and Boone County Women's Farm Bureau Chairman. For many years she was organist at the Napier Methodist Church and was also a Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Safly is survived by two daughters, Helen Brown of 2916 Lincoln Way and Alice Swanson of rural Boone; two sisters, Maude Kitchen of 1332 Arizona Ave., and Evelyn Bowie of Manhasset, Long Island, N.Y.; three grandsons and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Guy Walker in 1941.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home.
