Keith Duane Cooper, 82, of Nevada, died Sunday, May 18, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at First United Methodist Church, 1036 Seventh St., in Nevada, with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada.
Keith Duane Cooper was born March 27, 1926, in Marshalltown, to Wesley C. and Grace E. (Gilgen) Cooper. He was a 1944 graduate of Marshalltown High School and attended Marshalltown Junior College. He served during World War II, Army Airborne 17th and 82nd Division, and received the Purple Heart. He married Mary Jeanne Keefer Aug. 15, 1948, at Methodist Church in Marshalltown. He was the owner of Central Iowa Printing for 48 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Nevada Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club, Toastmasters, Lions Club, VFW, Youth Center, sheriff reserve, volunteer fireman, LHD Founding father, city councilman, Youth Fellowship leader, Sunday school teacher, library board, Nevada Chamber of Commerce Board, William F. Ball American Legion Post 48 and American Legion Drum and Bugle Corp. He enjoyed golfing, sailing, fishing, reading, listening to music, bowling, ice skating and playing guitar.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Cooper; three daughters, Michele S. Cooper, Nancy A. (Jerry) McKim, and Cynthia S. Cooper-Whetro, all of Nevada; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Delbert Cooper, of LaMoille; and one sister, Betty Mahoney, of San Diego.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen Brush and Arlene Shaffer.
A memorial fund has been established.
Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
