NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, March 6, 2008.

Lois F. Smith, 92, of State Center, entered into eternal life, Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the State Center Nursing & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 7th at St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, State Center. Public visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Wensel-Perrin Funeral Home in' State Center. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in her memory. The Wensel-Perrin Funeral Home in State Center is caring for Lois and her family. Condolences may also be sent at www.vogelfuneralhomes.com.

Lois was born on April 20, 1915 on a farm southwest of State Center, the daughter of William and Lucretia (Riemenschneider) Eckhart. She grew up on that farm and graduated from the State Center High School in 1933. On February 6, 1937, she was united in marriage to Harold W. Smith in
State Center. The couple owned and worked a farm near Colo where they raised their family. After retiring in 1985, they moved into State Center; and, in February 2001, they moved to the Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown. She has resided at the State Center Nursing & Rehab since Sept. 2003.

Lois was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was active in their Women's Circle. She was also a member of SENA Club. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting; but she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harold and Lois enjoyed more than 66 years of marriage before his death on December 3, 2003.
She will be missed by her three children: James (Meryle) Smith of Colo, Linda (John) Greenlee of Davenport and Brenda Smith of Harmony House in Cedar Falls; two sisters: Janet Eggers and Helen Nolta, both of State Center; two brothers, John Eckhart of Marshalltown and Bill Eckhart of State Center; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

In eternal life, Lois joins her parents; her husband, Harold; sister, Doris Westphal and two brothers, Glen and Dale Eckhart.
