NEVADA Wallace "Wally" P. Hawcott, 85, of Nevada, formerly of Burt, died Friday, April 11, 2008 at Rolling Green Village in Nevada, Iowa.

Wally was born December 7, 1922 at Burt, Iowa, the son of George and Gladys (Wallace) Hawcott. He graduated from Burt High School in 1941. Wally served in the European Theater during WWII with the Army and was awarded a Purple Heart. Wally was united in marriage to Wantalee Arvilla Runchey on May 27, 1946. Wally had farmed and also served as Post Master in Burt, Iowa for 22 years. He retired in 1983.

After retiring, he and his wife spent 12 winters atthe tip of Texas at an RV Village. They moved to Nevada, Iowa in 1995. Wantalee preceded Wally in death July 25, 2003.

Wally was a former member of the Burt United Methodist Church and Central Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Nevada Community Band, the Heartland Senior Band, the Songbirds, was 60+ year member of the American Legion, Burt Iowa Lions Club, and the National Association of Postmasters of the United States.
Wally is survived by his son and daughter-inlaw:Kenneth and Marguerite Hawcott of Nevada, Iowa; and" three grandchildren: Ben Hawcott, Marie Sevin and her husband, Ty, James Hawcott and his fiancé, Amy Larson.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wantalee; and his daughter, Shela Hawcott in 1959.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Nevada First United Methodist Church. Burial with Military Honors was at the Burt Municipal Cemetery in Burt, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the Heartland Senior Citizen Songbirds and Band.
The Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory handled arrangements.
