Orvis T. Anderson, 81, of Roland died March 20, 2008 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial was in the Roland Cemetery.
Orvis was born March 23, 1926 in Slater, Iowa to Otis and Alpha (Twedt) Anderson. He married Mary Ann Grunsted on August 21, 1948. Orvis was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He owned Anderson garage in Roland from 1950 to 1967, then worked at George White in Ames for 17 years and then retired from the Department of Agriculture Weights and Measures.
Orvis was a member of the Roland American Legion, charter member of Roland Kiwanis and Roland Library Board. He also served on the Roland Museum and Roland Cemetery Boards. He was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church where he also served on church council and as a Sunday School Teacher, and was a member of the Men's chorus.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Anderson of Roland; his children, Linda (Marlin) Klehm Clarion, Tim Anderson of Roland, Scott (Cindy) Anderson of McCallsburg, Steve (Debbie) Anderson of Mesa, Arizona and Ann (Thomas) Lorenger of Scottsdale, Arizona; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a bother, David (Sue) Anderson of Sarasota, Florida and a sister, Jane Ann Alwin of Woodridge, Illinois.
Visitation was Friday, March 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland.
Soderstrum Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
