Gertrude Trudy Nicholas, an Ames resident, died Friday, April 18, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services are pending at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, in Ames.

Gertrude "Trudy" Teresa Nicholas, age 83, died Friday, April 18, at Bethany Manor. She was a former Ames resident.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, with a 7 p.m. scripture service at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, and with one hour of visitation at the church before the service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, with burial in Iowa City Memory Gardens.

Trudy was born Oct. 13, 1925, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Smith) Milder. She graduated from nursing school in Iowa City and worked for Veterans Hospital in Iowa City for 20 years as a registered nurse. She married Benny Dean Nicholas on June 25, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. The couple lived in Faribault, Minn., and Walker, Minn., and then moved back to Iowa City. Upon retirement they moved to Jamesport, Mo. She moved to Ames in 1995.

Trudy was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, where she was involved with church circles. She was also active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Trudy is survived by two sons and daughters in-law; James (Jane) Nicholas, of Gilbert, and Robert (Pat) Nicholas, of Purdys, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dustin) Lucht, of Davenport, Matthew Nicholas, of Des Moines, David Nicholas, of Ames, Timothy and Patrick Nicholas both, of Purdys, N.Y.; a great-grandchild Landon Lucht; six brothers, Leonard Milder, Ben Milder, Eugene Milder, Paul Milder and Gerald Milder, all of the Iowa City area, and John Milder, of Colorado; and one sister, Patricia Kasper, of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benny; and brothers and sisters.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.
