Betty M. Allen, a resident of Bickford Cottage in Ames, died Tuesday, April 15, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. A memorial graveside service is being planned for a later date.

Betty was born July 16, 1917, in Ames, the daughter of Nels E. and Annie L. (Miller) Swartz. She graduated from Ames High School in 1935. She married Ned S. Allen. Betty was a bakery manager and retired from Holsum Bakery in 1968. She lived in Phoenix and Black Canyon City, Ariz., for more than 50 years, where she was a member of the Lions Auxiliary of Black Canyon City.

She is survived by a niece, Marilyn Smith, of Ames; three nephews, Dennis (Betty) Sailsbury, of Ames, Paul (Barb) Sailsbury, of Ames, and Glen (Susan) Sailsbury, of Dysart; other nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned S. Allen; parents, Nels and Annie Swartz; two sisters, Martha Sailsbury and Virginia Lettow; and two brothers, Ed Swartz and Duane Swartz.

Grandon Funeral and Crema-tion Care is assisting the family.
