William H. "Bill" Banker, 81, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, March 18, at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball in Waterloo, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, also in Waterloo. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and the Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.

William H. "Bill" Banker was born March 30, 1926, in Beloit, Wis., the son of Elgie B. and Ruth Tracy Banker. He married Myrtle Charlotte Polzin Aug. 10, 1947, in Beloit, Wis. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2001.

He worked in machine maintenance at Schoitz Engineering for 32 years, retiring in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in England, France and Germany as a military policeman from 1944 to 1946.

He was an accomplished accordionist and was a longtime member of "The Townmen" band playing throughout the Waterloo, northeast and central Iowa areas.

He is survived by two sons, Bernard (Jerri) Banker, of Ames, and Rodney (Julie) Banker, of Evansdale; one daughter, Deborah Prugh, of Waterloo; one brother, Donald Banker, of Beloit, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and close companion, Carol Woodbury, of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrtle; one grandson, Joshua Foster; two brothers, Carlos Banker and Leland Banker; and one sister, Leone Earl.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
