Joseph "Joe" Briley, 99, of Nevada, died Tuesday, March 18, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Joseph "Joe" C. Briley, 99, died Tuesday, March 18, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, in Nevada Municipal Cemetery, with visitation from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada.

Joe Briley was born Feb. 13, 1909, in Lone Rock, the son of John and Icie (Hauseholder) Briley. They lived in Burt before moving to Nevada in 1919. He attended schools in Nevada. He married Norma Ayers May 29, 1933, in Omaha, Neb. She preceded him in death June 30, 2001. He was a depot agent for the Chicago Northwestern for 20 years and retired from R. H. Donnelley in 1974.

He was a 74-year member of Indian Creek Country Club and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. He enjoyed conservation and enjoyed the duck and geese and the lake at Indian Creek Country Club. One of his favorite sayings was, "What I don't say, people already know."

He is survived by one daughter, Marlys (Charles) Schultz, of Roger City, Mich.; one son, Lynn Briley, of Englewood, Colo.; two grandchildren; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Norma.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
