Evelyn Lucille Freeburg, 85, died Thursday, March 6, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer. Services were Monday, March 10, at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Evelyn Lucille Freeburg was born May 4, 1922, in Palo Alto County, the daughter of Lewis and Amy Johnson Capener. Her childhood years were spent in the rural Ruthven area where she received her education, graduating from Lake Center High School. Later, she spent two years studying music at Morningside College in Sioux City.

Evelyn married Dale Pershing Freeburg March 15, 1942, in Ruthven. Following their marriage, they farmed south of Spencer until retiring in 1980. She was an active member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, where she sang in and directed the choir. She was active in 4-H, serving as the county president. She got pleasure from playing bridge, sewing, catching fish and being a member of the Hope Well Club. Sharing the cottage at Lake Okoboji with family and friends brought her great enjoyment.

She is survived by one daughter, Sondra, and her husband, Robert Brannon, of Aurora, Colo.; one son, Marvin, and his wife, Laurie, of Ames; five grandchildren, Bob Meyer and wife Liz (son Travis), and Troy Meyer and wife Nichole (sons Jake and Owen), all of Colorado, Megan Caballero and husband Mike (sons Max, Gabe and Ian), Max Freeburg, and Greer Freeburg, all of Iowa; one brother, Doug Capener and his wife Pam, of Dallas; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; and two brothers, Keith and Wendell Capener.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements.
