Obituary of Mrs. Hannah Chelsvig

Mrs. Hannah Chelsvig, longtime resident of the Roland and Radcliffe communities, died at a nursing home in Nevada on Tuesday, May 21, 1963, at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 19 days. She was the daughter of the late Torger and Anna Cherland, and was born October 2, 1877 in Hardin county.

She was baptized in the St. Petri Lutheran Church at Story City, and was confirmed in Bergen Lutheran Church, Roland. For the past 24 years she has been a member of Salem Lutheran Church at Roland.

She was married to Joe T. Chelsvig on May 5, 1897. To this union were born five daughters and four sons. Mrs. Chelsvig was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Clarence.

She is survived by five daughters, Cordelia (Mrs. Marion Wierson) of Leroy, Minn., Hazel (Mrs. John Dodds) of Austin, Minn., Josie (Mrs. Sidney Troutner) of Waterville, Minn., Nettie (Mrs. Ernest Haugen) of McCallsburg, and Corrine (Mrs. George Buffington) of Colo: three sons, Tommy of Story City, Dennis of Pasadena, Calif. and Oscar of Roland; 31 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren; and one brother, Carl Cherland of Blue Earth, Minn.

Funeral services were held in Salem Lutheran Church on Friday, May 24, with Pastor Everett Nelson officiating. Harris Twedt sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Just as I Am". Pallbearers were six of the grandsons, Joel, Harley, Dale and Lesley Chelsvig, Ronald Dodds, and Wayne Olson. Burial was in the Roland Cemetery.
