Arthur E Mendon, 81, 1118 Roosevelt Ave., died Thursday, July 28, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, Knoxville. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. James L. Dotson, First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Mendon was born Nov. 22, 1901, at Angus to George and Florence (Chambers) Mendon. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1919. He attended Iowa State College and Drake University. On March 17, 1928, he married Ivadell Dixson at Mason City. He worked for the Iowa Highway Commission for 23 years. He was the Ames City Assessor for 24 years and retired in 1972. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Ames Elk Lodge #1626, B.P.O.E., past exalted ruler. He held state offices in the Assessors Association of Iowa. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Jane Bauerle of Ottumwa and Sue Powley of Clive; a brother, Harry Mendon of Grand Rapids, Minn., three sisters, Jennie Paterson of Woodward, Verna Clausen of Mason City and Florence Nobens of Ogden; and seven grandchildren. A memorial has been established and gifts may be given to the Heart Association or to the United Methodist Church.
