THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, March 1, 2008.

Vernon Leland Eggers, 81, of Hollister, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Skaggs Community Health Center in Branson, Mo. Funerals service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center, with burial to follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Vernon Leland Eggers was born Feb. 21, 1927, in State Center, the son of Ervin and Marie Fricke Eggers. He was a retired farmer and drainage contractor and had been a resident of the Hollister, Mo., area for the past 14 years. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Branson, Mo., and was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece Ione Frohwein Eggers, of Hollister, Mo.; three children, Linda Rutzen, of Marietta, Ga., Donna Lee, of Plano, Texas, and Leland Eggers, of Lenexa, Kan.; his siblings, Ramona Milleson, of Colo, Merle Eggers, of Ames, Rueben Eggers, of Mesa, Ariz., Glenn Eggers, of Unionville, Mo., and Elmer Eggers, of State Center; and five grandchildren.

Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown is handling the arrangements.
