TOLEDO-Lanney Lee Valline, age 70, of Toledo, died on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at his home in Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice due to a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Don Krukow officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation was held Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Lanney Lee Valline was born on March 17, 1937, in Story County, the son of Haynard and Mary (Brady) Valline. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1956. After enlisting in the Army, Lanney played football for the Elite All Army team, traveling extensively throughout England and Europe. In 1961, he moved to Andover, Massachusetts where he tried out for the Boston Patriots, and later played semi-pro football for the Wilmington Chargers. He moved back to Iowa in 1963 and joined the RCA (Rodeo Cowboys Association). Lanney participated in professional rodeos, riding rough stock, focusing on bull riding for the next three years. On June 10, 1967, he was united in marriage to Doris Sells. In 1967, he went to work for General Telephone, retiring in 1993. In 1999, Lanney was inducted into the Nevada High School Hall of Fame.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Haynard and Mary Valline; and two brothers, Ronnie and Haynard, Jr. (Butch) Valline. Survivors include his wife, Doris of Toledo; two daughters, Dawn (Michael) Gilmore of Methuen, Massachusetts, and Tracy (Andy Ackerman) Valline of Las Vegas, Nevada; one granddaughter, Faith Gilmore; three brothers, Wesley (Kathy) Valline of Nevada, Iowa, Richard (Janet) Valline of Henderson, Nevada, and Michael (Wanda) Valline of Glendale, Arizona; one sister, Rita (David) Ferneau of Malcom, Iowa. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established.
