Obituary. George Dye, Jr. the subject of the following sketch, was born in Morgan Co Ohio, Oct 3, 1816 and lived with his parents there until the spring of 1832 when the family removed to Indiana. In 1836 he was married to Miss Nancy Babcock. To them twelve children born, four of whom survive. Harvey Dye of Emmrick, Neb., Lowry Dye of Vermillion S.D., Mrs Martha Osborn and Fremont Dye of Ames Iowa. In 1851 they came to Iowa settling in Story Co. being among the early settlers of Iowa. George Jr. was one of ten children, seven sons and three daughters. The first death in this immediate family occurred after the youngest had passed his fifty first anniversary. Their names and ages are as follows George Dye born Jan 30, 1786, Sally born Dec 12, 1785, Benjamin born Jan 15 1807, Fanny born Feb 24, 1809, Isaac born Dec 16, 1810*, James born Oct 12, 1812, Jacob born Aug 14, 1814, George Jr., born Oct 3, 1816, William born Oct 18, 1818*, Sarah born Jan 19, 1823*, Samuel H. born Nov 11, 1828. Those living are marked thus. In early life he was converted and joined the Methodist church but after a few years severed his connection with that body and joined the Winebrennarians. He was a man of sterling integrity and highly respected by his friends and neighbours. At the time of his death he was 85 years, 4 months and 6 days old. Rev. Chandler of the Baptist church conducted the funeral services that were held at home. Interment taking place in the Hickory Grove cemetery southeast of Nevada.
