THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, December 20, 2006.

Gene Vance McKeever, 76, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006 at Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington, Illinois, following complications after surgery.

Gene McKeever was born Aug. 28, 1930 in Otley, Iowa to Ren V. and Alma F. (Frazer) McKeever. He married the former Louise "Larie" Gandrup on Nov. 7, 1954 in Story City. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1953 where he was involved with the Radiological Warfare School. He was a graduate of Monroe High School in Monroe, Iowa and the Des Moines Business College with a degree in accounting. He later received his degree in Safety Engineering. He was employed with the Crum & Foster Insurance Company for 30 years, first in Des Moines, then moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota and later to Freeport and Oak Brook, Illinois. His biggest enjoyment was spending time with his family and especially his five grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years; his son, Scott S. (Cari) McKeever of Crystal Lake, Illinois; his daughter, Jill (Scott) Irwin of Bellevue, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Katherine R. McKeever, Allison E. McKeever and Joseph Gene McKeever of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Sean T. Irwin and Jack R. Irwin of Bellevue, Nebraska; his sister, Betty F. Wilcutt; sisters-in-law Norma Gandrup of Ames and Marianne J. Gandrup of Story City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Burton E.. and Cora S. Gandrup; brothers-in-law Forrest E. Wilcutt, Harry D. Gandrup and Wallace B. Gandrup.

Memorial services were held Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006 at Living Waters Lutheran Church, 1808 Miller Road, Crystal Lake, Illinois with the Rev. Michael E. Thomas officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Living Waters Lutheran Church.
