Hazel Marie Thorson, 91, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at Parkside Meadows Retirement Center in St. Charles after being hospitalized for four weeks. Hazel was a homemaker.

She was a member for 50 years of the United Methodist Church in Williams. She was church treasurer for 17 years and a member and officer of United Methodist Women. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was an active 4-H member and received the Story County 4-H Citizenship Award. As an adult Mrs. Thorson was a 4-H leader for the Williams Hustling Homemakers for 20 years and received the Hamilton County 4-H Alumni Award. She was a longtime member and officer of the Federated Women's Club in Williams.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Melburne "Mel" Peter Thorson, her parents Arthur and Daisy Couser; three sisters Lola Davis, Alice Stevens, and Ilo Cozzens; and two brothers Luther Couser and Chet Couser.

She is survived by one daughter, Lois and husband Russell Lawson of St. Charles, Missouri; and one son, Delmar and wife Virginia Thorson of Merced, California; three granddaughters, Cindy "Cid" and husband Rob Chase, Kathleen Thorson of Burbank, California, and Lesli and husband Brian Behn of Merced, California; two grandsons, Mark and wife Pam Lawson of Chesterfield, Missouri, and Eric and wife Christy Thorson of Sacramento, California; two great-granddaughters, Kirsten Lawson and Aiyana Chase, one grandson, Zachary Lawson; and one sister, Evelyn and husband Charles Davis of Clemons, Iowa.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Nov. 25, at 1:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church of the Shepherd, 4116 McClay Road, St. Charles, Missouri 63301. Memorial services will be held at a later date at the United Methodist Church in Williams, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to Make a Wish Foundation, 1324 North Rock Hill Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63124 or the United Methodist Church, Williams, Iowa. Arrangements by The Neptune Society of St. Louis, Missouri.
